The Process

A clear, guided process from initial conversation to final install

1) Initial Enquiry

Every project begins with conversation. Get in touch to discuss your project and the space you would like to improve.

2) Initial Estimate

Based on your requirements, I’ll provide a guide price so you can understand the likely cost of the project before moving forward.

3) Home Visit & Survey

Measurements are taken and the design is planned to fit the room perfectly.

4) Design & Quotation

A detailed quotation and design plan is prepared so you can clearly visualise how the finished piece will look.

5) Build & Install

Your project is crafted in our workshop and then installed in your home.

Professionally Crafted For Long-Term Quality

The difference between off the shelf furniture and truly bespoke fitted cabinetry is often found in the details you notice every day once it’s installed – how solid the furniture feels, the quality of the finish, the smoothness of the doors and drawers and how naturally everything fits within the room itself.

Carefully Checked At Every Stage – At Built in Oxford, we take pride in every stage of the process. From the initial design work through to the final installation, each element is carefully considered.

Every project is pre-assembled in the workshop prior to installation. This allows us to refine the details, resolve any issues early and ensure everything meets our standards before entering your home. It also helps reduce installation time significantly, with many projects fitted within just one to two days depending on size.

Carefully Selected Materials & Hardware – We use carefully selected materials and hardware chosen for both durability and finish quality, including moisture-resistant MDF, premium real wood veneers, solid wood edging details and quality hardware. Doors and panels are professionally spray-finished using our airless and HVLP spray machines to create a smooth, durable and consistent finish that simply cannot be replicated with on-site painting.

Before

From Wasted Space

After

To Fully Integrated Storage

Good fitted furniture design can transform the entire feeling of your bedroom.

Storage Designed Around How You Live

No two homes are the same, which is why every project begins with carefully understanding both the room and how you want the space to function day to day.

Tailored To Your – Older homes often contain unusual layouts, changing ceiling lines, alcoves and architectural features that make standard furniture feel disconnected and poorly fitted. By designing each wardrobe specifically around the room, we’re able to make far better use of the available space while maintaining balanced proportions and a clean built-in appearance.

By designing the furniture specifically around the room and how you actually live day to day, we’re able to create bedrooms that feel calmer, more organised and significantly easier to use. Everything has a place, the room feels less cluttered and awkward spaces that were previously wasted instantly become useful.

What Homeowners Across Oxfordshire Say About Built In Oxford

A Personal Approach From Start To Finish

Thoughtfully designed fitted furniture, carefully crafted within our Oxfordshire workshop by one local team from start to finish.

For me, the most rewarding part of this work is seeing the reaction once a project is finally installed. I enjoy solving awkward storage problems and creating furniture that helps a room feel calmer, more organised and crating a space that works for you.

I’ve always been drawn to the meticulous side of fitted furniture design – considering proportions, layouts and the finer details that make a space feel intentional. For me, it’s a perfect blend of craftsmanship and problem solving.

I really value the responsibility that comes with taking someone’s vision and carefully bringing it to life in a way that hopefully exceeds expectations once installed.

Fitted Wardrobe FAQs

Answers to common questions about bespoke fitted wardrobes in Oxfordshire, including costs, materials, layouts, installation and design options.

How much do fitted wardrobes cost in Oxfordshire?

Fitted wardrobes typically start from around £4,500 for smaller projects, with larger fully bespoke installations often ranging between £6,000–£12,000+ depending on size, materials, internal layout, finishes and additional features such as lighting.

Every project we create is designed specifically around the room, so pricing can vary significantly based on the level of detail and customisation involved.

Can fitted wardrobes work in small bedrooms?

Yes, smaller bedrooms are often where fitted wardrobes make the biggest impact.

By designing storage wall-to-wall and floor-to-ceiling, fitted wardrobes can make far better use of the available space compared to freestanding furniture. Internals can also be tailored specifically around how you use the room day-to-day.

Can you build fitted wardrobes into alcoves or awkward spaces?

Absolutely. Many older Oxfordshire homes have uneven alcoves, chimney breasts, sloped ceilings or challenging layouts that standard furniture simply cannot accommodate properly.

Because our wardrobes are fully bespoke, we design and build everything around the room itself to achieve a clean, intentional fit.

Do fitted wardrobes go all the way to the ceiling?

In most cases, yes.

Floor-to-ceiling fitted wardrobes help maximise storage while creating a more seamless, appearance. They also reduce dust traps above wardrobes and often make the room feel calmer and more organised visually.

What materials do you use for fitted wardrobes?

We typically use high-quality moisture-resistant MDF like hidrofugo, real wood veneers and premium hardware systems depending on the design and finish required.

All furniture is professionally manufactured and spray-finished in our Oxfordshire workshop to achieve a far smoother and more durable finish than most on-site painting methods.

Are spray-finished wardrobes durable?

Yes. Professionally spray-finished wardrobes are designed to be highly durable and suitable for everyday use.

Workshop spraying creates a much finer and more consistent finish compared to hand-painting on-site, while also allowing for better preparation, curing and quality control before installation.

What wardrobe internals can be included?

Everything is designed around how you use the space.

Wardrobe internals can include:

  • long and short hanging
  • adjustable shelving
  • deep drawers
  • shoe storage
  • hidden compartments
  • integrated lighting
  • jewellery or accessory storage
  • laundry sections
  • open display shelving

We tailor the internal layout specifically to your lifestyle and storage needs.

How long does it take to install fitted wardrobes?

This depends on the size and complexity of the project, though most installations are completed within 1–3 days.

Because we pre-assemble and prepare much of the furniture within our workshop beforehand, installation on-site is typically faster, cleaner and more efficient.

Do you provide wardrobe design visuals before manufacturing?

Yes. We provide design proposals and visuals during the process so you can properly understand the layout, proportions and overall direction before manufacturing begins.

This helps ensure the final furniture feels balanced within the room and functions exactly as intended.

Can fitted wardrobes add value to a home?

Well-designed fitted wardrobes can improve both the practicality and presentation of a home, particularly in properties where storage is limited or the layout is challenging.

While every property is different, bespoke fitted furniture is often viewed as a desirable feature due to its integrated appearance and efficient use of space.

What’s the difference between fitted and freestanding wardrobes?

Freestanding wardrobes are made to standard sizes, whereas fitted wardrobes are designed specifically around the room itself.

This allows fitted wardrobes to:

  • maximise storage
  • work around awkward architecture
  • achieve a cleaner built-in appearance
  • feel more integrated within the home

Fully bespoke fitted wardrobes also provide far greater flexibility in materials, finishes and internal configurations.

Do you offer fitted wardrobes across Oxfordshire?

Yes. We design, manufacture and install bespoke fitted wardrobes across Oxford, Oxfordshire and many surrounding areas including Bicester, Thame, Wheatley, Woodstock and surrounding villages.

All furniture is built and spray-finished within our Oxfordshire workshop.

What happens during the design visit?

The design visit is an opportunity to properly assess the room, take detailed measurements and discuss how you would like the space to function.

We’ll talk through layouts, finishes, storage requirements and any design ideas you may already have, before producing a tailored proposal for the project.

Can lighting be integrated into fitted wardrobes?

Yes. Integrated wardrobe lighting is becoming increasingly popular and can make a significant difference to both functionality and atmosphere.

We regularly incorporate discreet LED lighting into shelving, hanging sections and vertical panels to create a softer, more premium feel.
